Colorado Wildflowers

by Jenny

This last weekend I made it out to Denver to visit my parents for a quick weekend trip.  Saturday morning they picked me up from the airport and we headed straight for the mountains.  There isn't much prettier on a sunny day in May than the mountains after a spring of rain.  As usual, both my dad & I took lots of pictures.  This time, though, we were on the lookout for wildflowers.  Here are the ones we found along the path by Loveland pass, along the sidewalk in Breckenridge and along I-70 & hwy 6 going through the mountains back and forth to Denver.  I am not an expert and have tried looking them all up to find their names.  I found a few of them, but if any of you know the names of the other ones, help me out.  I couldn't find names for all of them.   They are truly the icing on the cake when it comes to the beauty of the mountain trails.

For the Love of Blush

by Jenny

Is spring here in Minnesota ever going to grace us with some sunshine & warm(er) weather?  I check the 5 day forecast on my phone about 7 times a day, just crossing my fingers that the rain drops will be replaced by a sunshine!  It will get here one of these days; I have hope!!  Kicking off our spring weddings, we had a lovely one last Saturday at the Van Dusen Mansion in Minneapolis.  Such a gorgeous venue! I had been looking forward to this wedding for quite a while!  The bride's color palette was white, blush, pink & GOLD!  Nothing brightens up cloudy days better than those colors.
We wanted to share the inspiration board we put together at the beginning of the planning stages as well as some of our favorite iphone pictures of the flowers.  What are your favorite spring colors?

We Heart It 2014 Recap

Remember those two warm days we had this cold winter?  Luckily one of those days was during our “We Heart It” open house! It was an evening full of inspiration!  Our vision was to create a fun night for vendors, brides-to-be, and anyone who enjoys parties to have delicious food, drinks and experience something new to get a fresh idea for their own event.

We partnered with Diane, of The Vintage Type rentals, and were lucky enough to use her lovely rentals throughout the entire showroom.  Located in downtown St. Paul, it was the perfect place to provide inspiration. Thank you Diane!

Chowgirls provided the delicious food that people couldn’t get enough of, especially the Arugula wrapped in Prosciutto and savory coconut curry macadamia nuts!

Kelly’s husband Matt was able to create the stunning pallet wall backdrop for the bar where our friend Marco of Bittercube poured amazing custom cocktails specially created for the evening. The floral garland was made by Jen and added the pop our bar needed!

Heidi from HLP photography spent the evening capturing all of the little details in her talented way.

Menus and place cards on our harvest and sweetheart tables were created by Rock Paper Scissor and they completed our tablescape perfectly, thanks Kate!

Oh Dier’s handcrafted wooden signs & cake toppers could be seen throughout the space, and we were only able to showcase a handful of what they do!

The true showstopper was Acowsay Designs’ Slow Motion Video booth!  Something different than your traditional photo booth…this is a little more involved for the guests…and a lot of fun to be a part of.  Check out the finished product!

Thank You to all of the vendors who participated and made our evening shine and to all who came out experience it. We truly appreciate you coming!  We hope to do it again soon!

a new beginning

Today is such an exciting day, and a long time in the making!  Time sure flies when you are having fun, re-designing websites & adding business partners to the mix.  Today Maven is happy to announce a new face…well she’s not technically new…you might recognize her from this shoot & her wedding…but she is now officially a MAVEN!!

Kelly Bollis and I have joined forces to create and execute all your celebratory needs.  Having her join means I get to concentrate a little more on my true love of flowers, while she takes the reigns on her expertise of vendor curating & event execution.

Check out our new website; Kelly did an amazing job on the re-design!! We have also started a new Pinterest page – follow us for party inspiration! We will be continuing to update and post to twitter and facebook and both have an instragram account, Mavenevents & Mavenfloral, so be sure to follow both of us to see what we’re working on.

To help with the re-launch, our lovely friend & photographer, Heidi from HLPPhoto, met us at the Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens. For two people that definitely are more comfortable being behind the scenes and arranging everything, it was a lesson in how much work it is to get your photos taken.  A special thanks to Maureen for doing our hair & make-up!
We have shared a few of our favorite pictures from Heidi, be sure to explore our new website to see if you can spot them being used and check out Heidi’s blog for lots of great photography.

We look forward to what the future holds for MAVEN! We have lots of exciting projects in the works!

blogshop

Last weekend I was able to take this wonderful class called Blogshop.  Bri of Designlovefest & Angela of angela & ithyle photography teach this amazing class to take people that have never used photoshop to being able to easily navigate the program and take your blog to the next level. I've always wanted to go, but it wasn't until this February that they made their way to Minneapolis!  Boy, was I excited....and I learned so much! And you'll be seeing more posts now because I HAVE to practice everything I learned!!  Here's some instagrams of the weekend. Thanks Kate for signing up with me...it was great to go with a friend and have someone to remind me tricks when I forget!  and thanks to all the blogshop sponsors for the amazing goodie bag!

"dreamy" baby shower

A few weeks ago now one of my bestest of friends had her first baby.  She is the most beautiful, full- head-of-hair, gorgeous baby!! Getting to hold this little pumpkin I remembered I hadn't posted any pictures of the shower we had thrown for her mom a few months back.

There are so many cute baby showers ideas, sometimes it is hard to decide what to do, but I had seen these homemade clouds from a few different blogs and I really wanted to build the party around these!  So a dream/cloud theme was born.  My invitation queen Kate of Paper Rock Scissor did the adorable invitations that compliment everything so nicely! And thanks to Heidi of Heidi Lynn Photography for taking these pictures!
the doily wrap and scallop edge on the address wrap helped introduce the clouds

wild rice soup, bread & fresh salad was on the menu

of course we needed some actual clouds in the room.  thanks pinterest for all the how-to's!!

all the desserts had some "cloud" quality to them
etsy is so great for finding those finishing touches like these cloud straw decorations...

aren't those baby cups the cutest!!!

my first go at royal icing on sugar cookies.  I definitely want to make these again!

overall these were some of my favorite flowers I have worked with...the peonies, cotton and astilbe all went so well with the clouds

we requested guests bring books instead of a card.  Everyone was a fan, especially the pretty mama who has a good start on baby's library now!

Can't wait to see baby Teegan grow up!!
